Montana Population

Montana is a state located in the western United States. According to the most recent U.S. census, Montana has a population of just over 1 million people, making it the 44th most populous state in the country. The population of Montana is quite diverse, with Native Americans making up 8.7% of the population and whites making up 83%. The remaining 8% is made up of African Americans, Asians, and other minority groups. The median age in Montana is 38 years old and the median household income is $51,340.

The majority of Montana’s population lives in its largest city, Billings. Billings has a population of about 110 thousand people and serves as an important hub for business, education and transportation for much of the state. Other major cities in Montana include Missoula, Great Falls and Bozeman which each have populations between 40-60 thousand people. Smaller towns make up much of the remaining population with many rural communities scattered throughout the state’s vast landscape.

In addition to its diverse racial makeup, Montana also has a large religious presence with Catholics making up about 25% of its population followed by Protestants at 20%. Other religious affiliations include non-denominational Christians (11%), Mormons (2%), Buddhists (1%), Muslims (1%) and Hindus (less than 1%). With such a wide variety of beliefs represented throughout its population, Montana provides an open atmosphere for all faiths to be respected and celebrated among its citizens.
