Weather and Climate in Uruguay

In the north of Uruguay there is a subtropical climate, in the southern part of the country it is temperate. The climatic conditions on the coast can be compared with the conditions in the coastal areas of northern Spain, southern France and northern Italy.
There are distinct seasons in Uruguay with warm to hot summers (December to April) and cool winters(May to November). The summer is comparatively cool for these latitudes, the winter months (June to August) are relatively mild. In the interior of the country, the temperatures are a little higher. The north-west of Uruguay is generally warmer and drier than the coastal regions. In summer, tropical air masses from the north can cause temperatures to rise to 40 ° C.

Due to its mild climate, Uruguay is a year-round holiday destination. It will get better from mid-February with still good weather, but not quite as many tourists. Uruguay’s main attraction, the Atlantic beaches, also attract most tourists in the warmer summer.

It can get very hot inland in summer. During the spring it is more humid, but the southern autumn is a good travel time, when there is little precipitation and the temperatures are very pleasant, especially for trekking and sightseeing tours.
