Weather and Climate in Mexico

Due to the expansion of the country over 18 parallels, you can find 3 different climatic zones in Mexico.
The country extends from the transition area of the summer humid outer tropics with 8 to 10 humid months in the southeast over the year-round dry subtropics in the tropic region to the winter rainy climate of California in the extreme west (Baja California).

In both the Pacific and the Caribbean coastal lowlands, the climate is hot and humid, in the interior at higher altitudes such as Guadalajara or Mexico City ‘s climate is much drier and more temperate.
The hot, humid season in Mexico falls between May and October, with most parts of the country having the hottest and wettest months from June to September. The low-lying coastal areas of Mexico receive more rainfall than the higher inland areas. The plains of the Caribbean coast are considered to be the wettest region in Mexico. The north coast of the Yucatan Peninsula is comparatively drier than its east coast or the interior of the peninsula. The Pacific coast and the Gulf of California, on the other hand, are very dry.
December to Februaryare typically the coolest months in the country when northerly winds in interior, northern Mexico can make it downright chilly, sometimes with temperatures approaching freezing.

Mexico is a year-round holiday destination, but the best travel weather is from November to May. During this time of year, warm clothing is recommended for the higher elevations. In northwest Mexico (north of the Tropic of Capricorn), however, you can also consider the summer months, as the winter here is quite humid and relatively cool.

During the rainy season, the high humidity can be exhausting and in some parts of the country it can get very hot. In addition, tropical cyclones can occur in Mexico between June and November. Especially in September and October, the weather is often unstable and the risk of a hurricane is greatest.
Accommodation is often fully booked during Semana Santa (the week before Easter) and Christmas / New Years, the highlights of domestic tourism. Visiting the resorts on the south coast is not recommended between July and September. At this time it is hot, wet and crowded here.
