Weather and Climate in Suriname

Suriname has a tropical climate and is not hit by tropical cyclones. The average annual maximum temperatures on the coast vary between 28 and 32 degrees. At night the temperatures hardly drop below 22 degrees. Inland it can get a little cooler in higher areas.

The humidity in Suriname is extremely high. It lies on the day on average about 80% and in the night to up to 95% can be achieved.

There are two rainy seasons in Suriname. The small rainy season runs from the beginning of December to the beginning of February and the large rainy season from mid-April to mid-August. Even in the dry season there is rainfall that fail violent and short.

Inland there is only one rainy season from April to September with lower temperatures and lower humidity than in the coastal regions.

The best time to travel to Suriname is during the two dry seasons from early February to late April and from mid-August to early December. From March to July, different species of sea ​​turtles come ashore to lay their eggs.
