In order to enter Malawi, certain goods are subject to specific controls and, regardless of their value and quantity, they require the consent of Malawi government, preferably, license must be obtained prior to passage through the customs, preventing the goods from being retained. Commercial goods require an invoice. Patent medicines must be clearly marked with their composition and dosage.

Prohibitions

In addition to items prohibited by Dangerous and Prohibited Goods & Packaging Post Guide and ECI International Courier Regulations, Malawi prohibits:

  • Aphrodisiacs and relating correspondence
  • Chain letters
  • Coins, bank notes, currency notes or securities of any kind payable to the bearer
  • Clothing, used
  • Firearms and parts thereof
  • Platinum, gold or silver
  • Precious stones, jewels or other valuable articles
  • Travellers cheques
  • Vegetables and vegetable products.
