Minnesota – The state got its name from the ink-blue water of the Minnesota River (Indian origin). Minnesota, also known as the North Star State, has around 4 million inhabitants and was first visited by fur traders and missionaries in the 17th century. The travelers coming from French Canada had to hand over the state to England in 1763. As a result of the Louisiana land purchase in 1803, the western part of what is now Minnesota went to the United States and in 1858 it became the 32nd state in the Union. The state is covered by over 10,000 lakes and the main commodities are grain, cattle and pigs. The state capital is St. Paul.
