Climate
Republic of Cuba is an island nation separated from North America by the Straits of Florida. The area of the country is 110.9 thousand km2. The republic consists of Cuba itself, Juventud and their surrounding islets (more than 1.5 thousand).
The coast of the country is lined with coral reefs. The southern coast is washed by the Caribbean Sea. On the northwest side is the Gulf of Mexico, and the northeast coast of Cuba belongs to the Atlantic Ocean. Two-thirds of the country’s relief is occupied by plains. The sea coast is the lowest, here there are mangroves (10% of the island’s area). In the southeast of the state, the Sierra Maestra mountains stretch, in the western part – Guaniguanico and in the center – Escambray. The whole of Cuba is indented with karst caves. So, in the south, in Santo Tomas, a natural underground labyrinth opens up to tourists, with a length of 25 km.
The climate in Cuba is tropical-trade wind type. There are two seasons here: from October to April – drought and from May to September – rains.
