Idaho Population

Idaho is the 14th most populous state in the United States with an estimated population of 1.7 million people. The population of Idaho has grown steadily over the past several decades, with a growth rate of around 8% since 2010.

The majority of Idaho’s population resides in the southwestern corner of the state, with Boise being its largest city and the state capital. Other major cities include Nampa, Meridian, Pocatello, and Coeur d’Alene. The average age in Idaho is around 36 years old, making it slightly younger than the national average.

Idaho is home to a diverse population made up of many different ethnicities and backgrounds. Around 82% of Idahoans are white non-Hispanic, 7% are Hispanic or Latino, 6% are Native American or Alaskan Native, 2% are Asian or Pacific Islander, and 3% identify as two or more races. In addition to this diversity within Idaho’s general population, there is also a sizable immigrant community from Mexico and Central America that makes up about 8% of the total population.

In terms of religious affiliation in Idaho, nearly 70% identify as Christian while 24% report having no religious affiliation at all. Other religions practiced in Idaho include Buddhism (2%), Judaism (1%), Islam (1%), and Hinduism (less than 1%).

In terms of employment in Idaho, agriculture continues to play a large role as it employs over 12 percent of workers across the state while manufacturing accounts for another 11 percent. Other major industries include retail trade (11%), health care (10%), construction (9%), educational services (7%), professional/scientific/technical services (7%) and administrative support (6%).
