Greece Import Restrictions

In order to enter Greece, certain goods are subject to specific controls and, regardless of their value and quantity, they require the consent of Greece government, preferably, license must be obtained prior to passage through the customs, preventing the goods from being retained. Import restrictions

Senders should determine import restrictions from Greek authorities before posting:

  • Animals and animal products
  • Cigarette (or equally fine) paper
  • Chemical matches
  • Firearms
  • Guns, sporting
  • Meat, skin and wool etc
  • Milk, condensed
  • Narcotics
  • Pharmaceutical products
  • Plants and plant products
  • Silk cocoons
  • Television receivers
  • Tobacco leaf
  • War material
  • Weapons and parts of weapons

All items, including gifts, are subject to customs duty.

Special documentation

Used Clothing

Used clothing, dress materials, footwear, old papers and packing materials require a Certificate of Disinfection.
Commercial goods

Many commercial goods require the addressee to hold an import licence. Senders must attach a commercial invoice to customs documentation. Greece grants duty-exemption for items when their value does not exceed 35 EUR.

Prohibitions

In addition to items prohibited by Dangerous and Prohibited Goods & Packaging Post Guide and ECI International Courier Regulations, Greece prohibits:

  • Arms and ammunition
  • Aluminium in leaves or foil
  • Coins
  • Edible vegetables
  • Lottery tickets and related items
  • Lac, gums and resins
  • Live trees and other plants
  • Inorganic chemicals
  • Natural or cultured pearls
  • Pharmaceutical products
  • Printed books, and other products of the printing industry- offensive by nature
  • Playing cards
  • Publications of a seditious nature
  • Some mineral products
  • Saccharine
  • Salt
  • Snuff
  • Tobacco or tobacco products in letters
  • Toys, games
  • Weapons.
