Connecticut – The state was discovered in 1541 by Spaniard Hernando de Soto. The name Connecticut means “place on the long river” in Indian. The Dutch Adriaen Block followed the Spaniard de Soto in 1614. In 1633 people started to settle the land along the Connecticut River. This state belongs to the 13th original states and became the 5th state of the young Union in 1788. Today it has over 3 million inhabitants and is also called the “Provision State”. The main products come from agriculture. The capital is Hartford.
