Macedonia Import Restrictions

In order to enter Macedonia, certain goods are subject to specific controls and, regardless of their value and quantity, they require the consent of Macedonia government, preferably, license must be obtained prior to passage through the customs, preventing the goods from being retained. On this page, you will see what kinds of items are prohibited from entering the Macedonia, and which items need special documentation before exporting to Macedonia.

Macedonia Import Regulations

Import regulations

The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia requires an import permit for many goods. Before posting any item, senders should confirm that the addressee has any necessary permit. Senders should determine import restrictions from Macedonian authorities before posting:

 

  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Animals, animal products including skins/leather
  • Anti-parasite products
  • Coffee, coffee samples
  • Cologne and perfume
  • Cotton seed
  • Drugs: prescription and non-prescription
  • Fruit and vegetable products
  • Food stuffs
  • Jewellery
  • Leather goods
  • Liquids, non-hazardous
  • Measuring instruments
  • Medical samples, supplies and equipment
  • Musical instruments
  • Pharmaceutical products
  • Plants or plant products
  • Printed publications
  • Seeds
  • Tea
  • Tobacco
  • Weapons.

The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia may accept watch cases or housings (mounted or unmounted) of complete watches made of precious metals after analysis of the metal content. It does not accept articles containing incomplete watchcases or parts.

Postal items addressed to individuals not exceeding $US100 are exempt from customs duty.

Items inherited abroad and articles provided for in contracts concluded between States may be freely imported in accordance with such contracts.

Natural persons of Macedonian nationality exercising a profession may import articles for use in that profession subject to special conditions.

EDN’s and export permits are required for:

  • Kangaroo skins
  • Crocodile skins
  • Emu oil
  • Fish oil
  • Bunker oil
  • Coal
  • Petroleum bases products
  • Tobacco and tobacco products
  • Any other alcohol including beer and spirits all volumes.

Special documentation requirements

Senders must provide proof of the addressee’s entitlement on the customs form; otherwise, the addressee must provide the proof before delivery. Customs authorities inspect all Parcels.

Senders should mark all gifts and accompanying documents gift parcel or envoi cadeau.

All commercial goods must include an invoice.

The sender and receiver details must be addressed with a valid street address in English. A Post Office Box address is not acceptable.

The sender is responsible for finding if the destination country may impose duties, taxes, brokerage fees or any other fees that may be applied on the item that is being sent. Please contact the consulate office of the country you are sending to or contact the ECI customer contact centre on 1800 007 678.

In addition to items prohibited by Dangerous and Prohibited Goods & Packaging Post Guide and ECI International Courier Regulations.
Macedonia also prohibits:

  • Animals
  • Antiques
  • Asbestos
  • Bullion and currency
  • Cheques, cashier
  • Dangerous good, haz or comb materials
  • Deeds
  • Furs
  • Ivory
  • Jewellery, precious metals and stones
  • Precious metals and stones
  • Pornography
