New Hampshire Population

New Hampshire is the 9th smallest state in the United States, but has a population of 1.3 million people. Its population density is 148 people per square mile, making it the fourth most densely populated state in the country. The majority of New Hampshire’s population is concentrated in its southern region, with major cities such as Manchester and Nashua having large populations. The largest city in New Hampshire is Manchester with approximately 110,000 people. Other notable cities are Concord (42,000), Dover (30,000), and Rochester (29,500).

The demographic makeup of New Hampshire is largely Caucasian with 94% of the population being white alone or white in combination with other races. Hispanics make up 3% of the population while African-Americans make up 1%. Asians make up 2%, Native Americans 0.3%, and other races 0.4%. The median age for residents of New Hampshire is 42 years old and there are more women than men living in the state at 51% to 49%.

New Hampshire’s economy relies heavily on tourism as well as manufacturing and technology industries. In 2018, almost 15 million tourists visited New Hampshire to experience its natural beauty and attractions such as skiing, hiking, camping and fishing. Manufacturing also makes up a large portion of New Hampshire’s economy with companies such as BAE Systems producing defense systems for military use. Technology companies such as Dell Technologies have offices located throughout the state providing thousands of jobs to residents.
