Colorado – The state was named after the Colorado River. It means red in Spanish, just like the color of the river. Colorado became the 38th state of the United States 100 years after the declaration of independence, hence the name “Centennial State”. Colorado was settled near Mesa Verde 2000 years ago. The state was discovered by the Spaniard Francisco Vasquez in 1540. In 1858 gold was also found. The main sources of income are cattle breeding, potato and vegetable cultivation and oil production. The capital is Denver, and the state has approximately 2.6 million population. The main attractions are Mesa Verde National Park, the Rocky Mountains, Colorado Springs and Buffalo Bill’s Tomb.
