The Republic of Uzbekistan is a country in Central Asia. The culmination is Adelunga Toghi (4,301 m). There are 29 million residents (2016). The capital is Tashkent. This is a land of ancient civilizations, conquered by the Persians in the 7th century BC. Then came Macedonians, Arabs, Turks and Mongols. The Russians dominated the territory in the second half of the 19th century. It became a Soviet republic in 1924 and an independent country in 1991.
