CLIMATE

Uzbekistan is a landlocked country in the eastern part of Central Asia. Its closest neighbors are Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Turkmenistan. Uzbekistan covers an area of 447,400 km2. The capital is Tashkent.

The topography of Uzbekistan is diverse. The main desert – the Kyzyl-Kum desert is located in the north-central part of the country. The mountains of the southeast and northeast, which are the foothills of the Tien Shan, reach 4500 meters in height. In the northeast, surrounded by mountain ranges and intersects with the Syr Darya River – the Ferghana Valley. The Fergana Valley is undoubtedly the most fertile region of the country due to its warmer climate. The far west is dominated by the Turan lowland and the Amu Darya valley.

Uzbekistan has an exceptional, rich and diverse fauna. In general, there are 15 national parks in the country. Rare species of animals are found here, such as saiga and snow leopard living in mountainous areas. The desert is home to a huge variety of birds, reptiles and turtles.

The country has a continental climate, dry, with cold winters and hot summers. Average rainfall varies from 100 mm per year in the northwest to 800 mm per year in the Tashkent region. Precipitation falls mainly in winter and spring as rain. It is extremely rare to see snow in the country, the only exception is the highlands, where the air temperature is lower.
