Weather and Climate in Trinidad and Tobago

The Caribbean island state of Trinidad and Tobago belongs to the Lesser Antilles and has a tropical climate. Due to Trinidad and Tobago’s proximity to the equator, the temperatures are fairly uniform all year round. It is a little warmer on the island of Trinidad than on the island of Tobago.

The seasons in Trinidad and Tobago are less characterized by different temperatures than by different amounts of precipitation. January to May are the driest months (especially February and March), the rainy season lasts from June to December June and July are the wettest months in Trinidad. In the wet season, the precipitation falls mainly in the form of short, heavy showers in the afternoon.

The water temperature in Trinidad and Tobag is between 25 and 28 ° C all year round. Trinidad and Tobago is located south of the hurricane belt, where storms are generally not as severe as on the more northerly Caribbean islands. The best travel time for the two islands is the dry season between January and May

which allows beach holidays and all kinds of water sports, deep sea fishing or diving with pleasant temperatures and little rain. However, it is crowded on the islands during these months. Accommodation is much cheaper in the low season (October to December and April to June) and the number of tourists is manageable. However, the probability of rain is higher at these times. During the rainy season swarms of mosquitoes can be expected, which occur with increasing humidity and can affect the stay, especially in the interior of the country.

There is a regular short, slightly drier period between September and October – a good way to visit the islands outside of the absolute high season. Carnival, two days before Ash Wednesday in February or March, is the best reason to come to Trinidad.
