Like Chile, it is one of the only two countries on the continent not to border Brazil. It is one of the few 17 nations in the world considered megadiverse, being home to endemic species that develop mainly in the Galapagos Islands. Some of its large cities are also impressive for their degree of preservation. Quito, the capital of Ecuador, has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO for having the most preserved historic center in Latin America. In addition to Quito, some of its most visited regions are Guayaquil, Cuenca and, of course, the Galápagos Island.
