Oklahoma – The name Oklahoma means “red man” and comes from the Indian, while the first pioneers who settled here gave the state the name “Sooner State” (soon = earlier, rather). Oklahoma is home to the so-called five civilized Indian tribes: Cherokee, Choctaw, Chicksaw, Creek and Seminole. They legally sold their land to the government. The first settlement was in 1796 near Salina. Oil and corn are the major products of the 46th state in the United States (joined in 1907). The capital is Oklahoma City.
