Bosnia and Herzegovina is a country in southeastern Europe, on the Balkan Peninsula. Formerly a constituent republic of the former Yugoslavia, which declared independence in 1992. The current country of Bosnia and Herzegovina is still geographically divided into a northern region, Bosnia, and a southern region, Herzegovina. Bosnia also has 20 km of coastline along the Adriatic Sea. There are 3.8 million residents (2018). The capital and largest is Sarajevo.
