The Republic of Tajikistan is a country in Central Asia. It has a beautiful mountainous relief and some glaciers. The highest point is the Pico Ismail Samani (7,495 m). There are 8.5 million residents (2015). The capital is Duchambé. In Antiguiada, the territory of present-day Tajikistan was invaded by Persians and Greeks. Then came the Arabs, Mongols and Turks. In the 19th century, the Russians dominated the entire region. In 1929, Tajikistan became a Soviet republic. Independence was achieved in 1991. Since then, it has been the scene of many conflicts.
