Kyrgyzstan is a country in Central Asia with no access to the sea. It is mountainous, with beautiful scenery, land of the Kyrgyz people. The highest point is the Jengish Chokusu peak (7,439 m), on the border with China. There are 5.7 million residents. The capital is Bishkek. Kyrgyzstan was annexed to the Russian Empire in 1876. It became a Soviet republic in 1936. Independence was achieved in 1991.
