Azerbaijan is a country of two continents located at the crossroads of Europe and Asia. The total area is 86600 km2. In addition to the continental part, the territory of the country also includes 4 islands in the Caspian Sea, which washes the eastern part of the country. Azerbaijan shares its land borders (which total 2,648 km) with Russia, Georgia, Armenia, Turkey and Iran. With the exception of the eastern coast of the Caspian Sea and some areas bordering Georgia and Iran, Azerbaijan is surrounded by mountains. They cover about 40% of the country’s territory. Main mountain systems: Talysh, Greater and Lesser Caucasus. The highest mountain is Bazardyuzyu (4466 m), which is located on the Greater Caucasus Range.
Nine out of eleven climatic zones are present in Azerbaijan. Temperatures vary inland depending on the region’s proximity to the sea, the regional landscape, and the influence of arctic and moderate winds.
The climate varies from subtropical and dry in central and eastern Azerbaijan to subtropical and humid in the southeast (Lenkoran lowland), temperate along the shores of the Caspian Sea and cold mountainous in the uplands. Weather in Azerbaijan in January
On average throughout the country, nighttime temperatures range from -3C to +2C, and during the daytime from +5C to +10C. In the mountains at night up to -1С…-6С, and in the daytime up to +2С…+7С. In coastal cities, the air temperature is +3C…+5C at night, and +7C…+9C during the day. The water temperature in the Caspian Sea is +7C. Rains are expected almost all over the country (snow in mountainous regions). The level of precipitation will reach 20-25 mm.
Weather in Azerbaijan in February
The air temperature after sunset fluctuates around -2C…-7C, during the day – from -1C to +4C. In the mountains, it gets cold at night to -9C…-14C, and in the daytime to -1C…-6C. During the month, the main precipitation will be thunderstorms and snow. The level of precipitation and sea temperature do not differ from January.
Weather in Azerbaijan in March
In the capital and coastal cities of Azerbaijan in March, the air temperature will be +9С…+15С, in the central low-lying areas expect +12С…+18С, and in the mountainous regions about +10С. The rainfall in March is on the decline. The main types of precipitation in March are fog, rain with thunderstorms or hail, and snow can fall in mountainous areas. Sea water warms up to + 8C during the day.

The average daily air temperature in the country is +12C, the maximum rises to +16C during the day and the minimum drops to +9C at night. Near the coast of the Caspian Sea during the day the air warms up to + 17C … + 22C, and after sunset it fluctuates from + 6C to + 9C. Sea water +12 degrees. Precipitation in April is unlikely, only at night in some areas it is possible to rain.

In the mountains during the day, the air temperature rarely drops below +10C, and in the flat area it rises to +27C. The water in the Caspian Sea warms up to +18 degrees and seasoned tourists can be seen in the water. In May, there is a chance of hail, in some places it will rain with thunderstorms. Weather in Azerbaijan in June In the first month of summer, Baku and the Absheron peninsula meet tourists with daytime temperatures ranging from +22C to +27C (some days up to 34C), and after sunset – from +18C to +20C. The sea water temperature is very comfortable for swimming and is +23C. In mountainous areas, the thermometers show a maximum mark of +20C during the day and a minimum of +8C at night. On the sea coast of Azerbaijan, the air temperature in the daytime reaches +34C (rarely +38C). The coldest weather was recorded in the mountains, where at the foot the highest temperature during the day is + 25C, and at night it drops to a minimum of + 12C. The water in the Caspian Sea will warm up to +26C. In the rest of the country, the temperature is +30C…+32C during the day, and +20C…+25C at night. Precipitation in July is extremely rare.

During daylight hours in the capital, the air warms up to +36C…+37C. In coastal cities, the air temperature can reach the maximum mark for the year and rise above +40C. After sunset, the air masses do not cool down below +20C. The sea water temperature on the beaches of Absheron ranges from +24C to +28C.
Weather in Azerbaijan in September
The average monthly air temperature in the lowlands and on the Absheron Peninsula will be +24C to +28C, and in the mountains +17C to +22C. Thunderstorms and rain are expected in September, and there is a chance of hail in mountainous regions. Water in the Caspian Sea warms up to +24C. There will be fog in places at night and in the morning. For 2-3 rainy days, no more than 20 mm of precipitation will fall.
Weather in Azerbaijan in October
This month, the low-lying areas of the country will warm up to a maximum of +24C, coastal cities may be warmer (up to +27C). The water temperature in the Caspian Sea is +19C. In mountainous areas, there is a temperature drop at different times of the day: if during the day the air temperature can reach +10C, then after sunset the thermometer can drop to -3C. average monthly air temperature in Azerbaijan is +12C. Sea water warms up to + 14C during the day. For 1-4 rainy days, an average of 30-40 mm of precipitation will fall, the maximum amount of precipitation is 75 mm, it is expected in the south-east of the country, in the Astara region.

Wet snow is expected in the north and west. The average air temperature during the day is +3C, and at night +8C. In the mountains, the temperature varies from +2C during the day to -3C at night. In the second half of the month, the weather conditions will change: a large amount of precipitation is expected, which will fall in the form of rain and sleet.
