Illinois – Before the Indians, the state was called Land of Men or Land of Warriors. He became the 21st state in the United States in 1818. The state was discovered in 1673 by the French Louis Jolliet and Father Jacques Marquette. Her compatriot La Salle built Fort St. Louis in 1692.
