Vermont Population

Vermont is a small state located in the northeast region of the United States. As of 2020, it has a population of 626,299 people. The majority of Vermonters (90%) are white, and the remainder are made up of African Americans (2%), Asian Americans (1%), Native Americans (0.5%), and Latinx Americans (3%). Vermont has a lower population density than the national average, with only 62 people per square mile compared to the U.S. average of 93 people per square mile. The majority of Vermonters live in urban areas such as Burlington, Rutland, Montpelier and Stowe. In addition to these cities, there are many rural towns throughout Vermont that provide a unique lifestyle for those who enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing and skiing.

The median age in Vermont is 42 years old with 25% of its population being under 18 years old. The median household income is $62,313 and 13% of Vermonters live below the poverty line. Education is highly valued in Vermont; 96% of adults have at least a high school diploma or higher and 37% have at least a bachelor’s degree or higher. Employment opportunities vary across the state but are mainly centered around healthcare services, retail trade, manufacturing and hospitality services. In addition to these industries, agriculture remains an important part of Vermont’s economy with dairy farming being one its most prominent sectors.
